On 22 September we set off early at 8am by bus from Leibnitz and embarked on an exciting journey through Carinthia, finally reaching picturesque San Daniele. Our destination: a prosciutto and prosecco or wine tasting.
Arriving in San Daniele, our expectations were absolutely fulfilled. During the tasting of prosciutto and prosecco (or wine, depending on taste) our palates were spoiled. This culinary experience was a real treat and a perfect start to our weekend together.
We then continued our journey and reached Trieste at around 5 pm. The first evening in the city was all about free time. In small groups we explored the streets, had dinner in cosy restaurants and visited some bars. These experiences immediately captivated us with the lively atmosphere of the city.
On Saturday morning, we met at 10 am in the castle park of Miramare Castle to explore the impressive beauty of this place. This was followed by an informative guided tour of the old town at 11.15 am, which lasted about 1 ½ hours. We learned about the history and sights of the old town of Trieste and were fascinated by its charm.
The rest of Saturday afternoon and evening were again at leisure. Some of us took the opportunity to go shopping, others lingered in cosy cafés, and still others explored the city on their own. Despite the bad weather forecast, Saturday surprised us – after a brief rain shower – with bright sunshine.
On Sunday morning, accompanied by a guide, we walked from the hotel to the harbour and then took the boat for about 30 minutes to Muggia. There, a one-hour guided tour through the charming old town awaited us. The narrow streets and historic buildings took us back to times gone by.
Around noon the bus picked us up in Muggia, we collected our luggage at the hotel and headed home.
The weekend was marked by culinary highlights, cultural discoveries and the freedom to explore Trieste on their own.
We are all of one opinion that this trip was a wonderful opportunity that brought our team even closer together and during which we also gained many new experiences. We are already looking forward to the next adventure or company outing in 2024.
