It has been a tradition in our Boom family for years that voluntary colleagues, affectionately known as the Boom Christmas elves, meet in secret in the run-up to Christmas to make small, homemade gifts for all 90 Boom employees in Leibnitz, Graz and Oldenburg.
The beginnings of this wonderful tradition go back a long way. It originally arose from a spontaneous idea and the desire to make our employees feel happy in the hectic pre-Christmas period. We start brainstorming every year in summer and think about what gift we want to surprise our colleagues with. Last year’s gifts, the herb- and spice salt (2022), the homemade fortune cookies (2021) and the fruity strawberry jam (2020), were a complete success, so we wanted to offer homemade food again this year. As our head office is located in the “green heart” of Austria, which is known for its particularly delicious pumpkin seed oil, among other things, we wanted to make a Styrian pumpkin seed pesto this year.
When selecting the ingredients for our 90 jars of pumpkin seed pesto, we made sure that they were of good quality and regional. For example, the pumpkin seed oil and pumpkin seeds were supplied by Martin Pronnegg from St. Johann im Saggautal. On Friday, 17 November 2023, the time had finally come. We gathered at our headquarters in Leibnitz in the afternoon to make the pesto together and fill it into small jars. These were then wrapped with self-designed labels in the Boom corporate design. As we Christmas elves know our colleagues very well and know that there are lovers of spicy food among them, we have also made a spicy version of the delicious pumpkin seed pesto especially for them.
After the work was done, we rewarded ourselves and tasted the freshly prepared pumpkin seed oil pesto in the form of a delicious Styrian pasta.
At our annual Christmas parties in Leibnitz and Oldenburg, every employee received a jar of pumpkin seed pesto from the Christmas elves. It was lovely to see the joy with which the homemade gifts were received.
We are delighted that we were able to put a smile on the faces of our dear colleagues at this special time of year and look forward to exchanging new ideas for our gifts next year and continuing our tradition.
